Avionic Displays are an essential element of the cockpit environment but have a significant removal rate and are costly to support. Traditionally, the CRT assembly as the major life- limited component has been treated as a non-repairable item so, when a failure occurs, it is replaced with a new part. This is often unnecessary. The unique display component repair process pioneered by Thomas Electronics of Australia, provides an innovative and cost-effective alternative to part replacement.

The Thomas initiative maximises the value of the operator’s original investment by recognising the inherent serviceability of the CRT assembly to extract full value. The repaired assembly is returned in “as new” condition, identical in “form, fit and function” to the original part. The performance of the repaired assembly matches, and in some cases, exceeds the equivalent new component. All repaired components retain their original part and serial number ensuring full traceability to the original component.

The Thomas Electronics repair process is a proven solution, having been used extensively by major air transport operators since 1989. In addition to providing support for major airlines such as Qantas, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Air France KLM, United Airlines, British Airways, Fedex and Delta Airlines, Thomas Electronics is the designated depot-level support facility for cockpit displays used by the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces and is a Defence Recognised Supplier - Strategic Capabilities.

Quality Assurance

Work procedures and repair schemes developed by Thomas Electronics are carried out under Certificates of Approval issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA), the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC), the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). All repaired displays are supplied with either a CASA Authorised Release Certificate, US FAA Form 8130-3, CAAC Form AAC-038 or EASA Form 1.
